About Mardi Gras in Memphis

Mardi Gras in Memphis isn’t just a celebration—it’s a movement. Created by Mowbray & Cherina Rowand of The Rowand Group, owners of Rowand Restaurant Group (Fat Tuesday Memphis & ESCO Memphis), this festival was born out of a deep love for our city and a mission to revitalize, uplift, and bring energy to Downtown Memphis.

Why We Created Mardi Gras in Memphis

Downtown Memphis is the heartbeat of the city—a place full of culture, history, and untapped potential. Yet, like many urban centers, it has faced its share of challenges. Rather than sit on the sidelines, we wanted to be part of the solution. Mardi Gras in Memphis was designed to:

Strengthen the Downtown Business Community

By bringing thousands of locals & tourists to support businesses, restaurants, and entrepreneurs in the area.

Encourage Collaboration Over Competition

Downtown Memphis thrives when we work together. This event allows businesses to come together, cross-promote, and drive revenue as one ecosystem.

Elevate the Narrative Around Memphis

We’re shifting the focus from problems to progress—showcasing our city as a vibrant, safe, and exciting place to visit, live, and do business.

Celebrate Culture & Tradition

Mardi Gras is more than beads & parades—it’s about unity, joy, and resilience. By creating our own version of this legendary event, we’re embracing the spirit of New Orleans while making it uniquely Memphis.

Our Commitment to the Community

At the heart of Mardi Gras in Memphis is giving back.

That’s why a portion of proceeds benefits:

💜 Local Charities, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

💛 Unhoused Initiatives, providing care packages & volunteer opportunities

💚 Memphis Youth, funding local bands & students to experience Mardi Gras in New Orleans

We believe that when Memphis wins, we ALL win. That’s why we’re calling on businesses, residents, and visitors alike to be a part of something bigger. Whether you’re joining the parade, grabbing a drink at Fat Tuesday, partying at ESCO Memphis, or simply coming out to support—you are helping build the future of Downtown Memphis.
